For many, the idea of relocating to a new country to pursue an exciting career opportunity can seem like a thrilling adventure. However, my personal experience tells a different story.

Throughout my career, I have frequently relocated to different countries for work. These moves were primarily a means to an end, aimed at enhancing my CV and pursuing career growth. While I'm now retired, the thought of relocating still holds a special place in my heart.

There's nothing like the thrill of traveling for the sake of experiencing different cultures, trying new foods, going on hikes, and visiting friends. In fact, I've done this several times in my career. The excitement of exploring new places and making connections has been a defining part of my life.

If given the chance, I would leave the USA in a heartbeat to relocate to Finland, a country I have longed to live in for years. I dream of staying here legally, as I look forward to nothing more than returning to the USA in December.

Relocation as a Means to an End

My life has been characterized by the pursuit of career opportunities that led to international relocations. I have lived and worked in ten countries, doing interesting things along the way. These moves were strategic, aimed at building a impressive career and a diverse CV.

Now, at this stage of my life, I can't see a way to better my position in terms of career or geographical location. I am content where I am and will stay put either until conditions change or until I retire.

Young and Ambitious

Without a doubt, I would have seized the opportunity to relocate to countries like Australia or England when I was younger and more ambitious. Back then, the dream of experiencing new cultures and taking on challenging jobs was my driving force.

Today, my priorities have shifted slightly. While I would still consider a non-business opportunity if it were truly special, the idea of relocate doesn't hold the same allure as it did earlier in my life.

Personal Experience of Relocation

Eight years ago, I made a significant life change by migrating from the fast-paced lifestyle of eastern Australia to the more relaxed and affordable rural areas of the Philippines. This decision has brought me financial comfort, as I no longer live on Struggle Street. Here, I live in a community where people are happy and free from the control of materialism, globalization, and international corporations.

This experience taught me the importance of knowing why you're doing something and knowing when to stop. Relocation should be a strategic decision, not a whim. A clear understanding of the reasons behind your decision and a realistic assessment of the potential outcomes are crucial.
