Why Prince Edward Island Should Be Your Retirement Destination
For those considering a move to a quieter, more peaceful place to enjoy their golden years, Prince Edward Island (PEI) in Canada is an excellent choice. I have spent a couple of years here—2010 to 2012—before resuming my full-time RVing adventure here once again in May. In this article, I will explore why I love living on PEI and share my reasons why it should be a top choice for your retirement.
1. Safety and Comfort
It's safe. One of the top reasons why I love living on Prince Edward Island is its incredibly safe and comfortable atmosphere. Whether you’re exploring the coastline, visiting charming towns, or simply enjoying the natural beauty, you can rest assured that you are in a secure and peaceful environment.
2. Culinary Delights
The food. From the northernmost tip to the southernmost point, the food on Prince Edward Island is simply incredible. The diverse range of seafood, sourced directly from the local waters, is a treat for seafood lovers. You can enjoy fresh lobster, oysters, and other delicacies, making PEI a paradise for culinary enthusiasts.
3. Natural Beauty and Beaches
Beaches. PEI is home to some of the most breathtaking beaches in all of Canada. From the stunning national parks to the quieter provincial parks and even the hidden gems along dirt roads, there are endless options for relaxation and enjoyment. Some of my favorites are the secluded beaches where you can freely walk and even dig clams if you wish. These quiet, picturesque beaches offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
4. Charlottetown: A Vibrant Small City
Charlottetown. As a small city, Charlottetown is bursting with vitality and activity, even during the winter months. The arts scene is particularly thriving, with a wide array of cultural events and performances. Additionally, the city boasts fantastic restaurants and a variety of craft beers, making it an ideal place to spend quality time and enjoy the local culture.
5. Summer Delights
Summer. If you're looking for a place to spend a beautiful summer, PEI is hard to beat. The summers are mild and rejuvenating, featuring long, sunny days that stretch from sunrise to sunset. Unlike the hot, humid conditions found in southern Ontario, PEI offers a perfect climate for relaxation and enjoyment. Combine this with the natural beauty of the island, and you have a recipe for a truly idyllic summer experience.
Currently, I am preparing to leave PEI for Tofino, a change that comes with a mix of sadness and hope. I know that one day, I will return to PEI, and I know that you will too. Enjoy the journey and appreciate the incredible lifestyle that PEI offers for retirement. You can find affordable waterfront properties here, should you desire a home by the sea. Best of luck on your retirement journey!
