What is the Next Step in My Passport Application Process After Police Verification?

Hello everyone, I’ve recently gone through the passport application process and want to share my experience and the next steps after I received my police verification.

My Passport Application Journey

I am originally from the Jammu and Kashmir district Anantnag. I applied for my passport on June 15, 2024, and had my appointment scheduled for June 19, 2024. On June 20, 2024, I received an email stating that my police verification for the passport application had been initiated. The verification was set to take 21 days, and if it wasn’t completed, I should get in touch with the relevant police station.

Police Verification Process

On June 23, 2024, I received a call from a CID officer for verification. I went to visit the CID officer the same day and provided information about my address, family background, and other details. On June 29, 2024, I received a call from the police station, instructing me to visit the concerned police station on July 1, 2024, at 2 PM. I followed these instructions and on July 3, 2024, I received a call from the CID office, asking me to visit for further processing. There, I filled out all relevant details about my family and relatives.

On July 17, 2024, I visited the CID office to inquire about the status of my file. They informed me that the file had been sent on July 5, 2024, but the DSBDistrict Special Branch verification from the police station was delayed because the in-charge was on a yatra (pilgrimage) to Amarnath. The officer came back on July 24, 2024, and on July 25, 2024, I received a text message to visit the SSP (Sub-Inspector of Police) office Anantnag for passport counseling on July 26, 2024, at 11 AM. I followed the instructions and visited the SSP office.

Further Delays and Grievances

From July 26 to August 10, 2024, I did not receive any updates. Therefore, I lodged two grievances: one for the RPO (Region Post Office) Srinagar and the other for the Home Department regarding the delayed Police Verification Report (PVR). Both grievances were replied to, stating that the passport was under review at RPO Srinagar due to the lack of PVR from the CID office.

I provided clear information to the CID officer about the unfortunate incident involving my uncle, who was killed by terrorists while working in the PWD department in 1995. Since I was not even born at the time, my father narrated the situation. Despite this clear explanation, the verification took longer than usual.

Final Update and Conclusion

On September 1, 2024, I received the status that the police report had been submitted by Srinagar, and the action for passport printing had been initiated. The process would follow the steps of lamination, signing, quality check, and dispatch.

On September 2, 2024, I received a message confirming that my passport had been printed, and I would be informed via email or SMS regarding the dispatch. On September 4, 2024, I received an SMS that my passport had been dispatched under passport number CO…… and could be tracked via consignment number…… Finally, on September 5, 2024, I received my passport.

Next Steps for Passport Applicants

If you are going through the passport application process and have undergone police verification, the next steps likely include:

Lamination, Signage, and Quality Check: These are routine steps that ensure the passport meets the required standards. Dispatch: Once the passport satisfies all quality checks, it will be dispatched. You will receive an email or SMS with tracking information. Package Tracking: Track your passport consignment number to know its current status.

In case of further delays, you can follow up with the relevant department or lodge a grievance if necessary. This will help ensure the timely and accurate processing of your passport application.
