The Northeast region is far from being a priority for the government. Neglect in infrastructure development is rampant, and real-time information on road conditions is scarce. It is quite difficult to gauge the extent of the damage during monsoon season. Travelers are strongly advised to avoid these routes during the rainy months when the depth and sheer depth of the potholes can be hazardous.

Formerly, the journey from Agartala to Kolkata via Silong, Guwahati, Alipur Duar, and Siliguri was quite a pleasant experience. With night halts in hotels and PWD Rest Houses along the way, it was a comfortable and enjoyable trip. However, the current road conditions have significantly deteriorated, making it a more challenging journey than it once was.
