The Most Fun Motorbikes I've Ever Owned: A Personal Journey

What is the Most Fun Motorbike I've Ever Owned?

It's a difficult question to answer, as freedom and enjoyment vary from one rider to another. For me, all of my motorbikes have been fun, just in different and unique ways. Each one has added precious moments to my riding life, making my journey unforgettable.

The Silver Cadillac: My '06 FXDL

One of those bikes that I rode for quite some time and still miss, is my '06 FXDL. Though I have accumulated a lot of miles on my vintage '83 CB650SC, my '06 FXDL holds a special place in my heart. It's incredible how it stays so comfortable and glides along, much like a luxury car in a tour.

Goobers in the Dirt and Trails

Closer to my heart is a classic and a real workhorse, my Suzuki TS 185. Bought brand new for around $1100, this bike offered incredible enjoyment through its trail rides and off-road adventures. It had just enough power to keep up with challenging terrains, yet it remained lightweight enough not to wear me out during long rides. A favorite of mine, it used to take me to work and, on Fridays, I would trailride my way home, often taking about three hours to reach my destination.

Flexibility and Rigidity – The Ultimate Ride

When it comes to motorbikes that provide the most joy, it's hard to beat a Ducati with a trellis frame. The trellis frame design provides remarkable rigidity and flexibility, allowing you to enjoy rides in any terrain and condition. Riding a Ducati is nothing short of a joyride, making you genuinely smile as you explore various trails and conditions.

Bikini Adventures: My XR650R

A true go-anywhere, do-anything bike, my XR650R watercooled is a consistent favorite. Over the past years, I have used it for numerous trail rides and adventure tours, exploring the vast landscapes of New Zealand. Surprisingly fast for a trailmotor, it can reach speeds of up to 190kph and keep pace with many roadbikes on challenging B-roads.

Cruising on the VFR800F

Finally, when it comes to touring, my love and preference lie with the Honda VFR800F. I've owned three versions of the same motorcycle: the 1999 50th Anniversary model, the 2003 VFR800 V-TEC, and the remade 2015 VFR800F. They all use a similar engine with minor modifications. The bike is remarkable for touring, offering strong torque, comfort, and easy maintenance. It can be ridden for 6-8 hours with major stops and still be ready for a night out clubbing. I consider it the perfect bike and will continue to purchase them as long as they remain in production.

A Few Tips for Safe and Enjoyable Motorcycling:

Stay sober and responsible while riding. Follow all traffic rules and regulations. Adhere to the spirit of safe driving. Wear appropriate motorcycle clothing and gear.

For all the enthusiasts out there, I wish you great rides and unforgettable adventures on your favorite motorbikes!
