Introduction
Every career in the aviation industry is unique, tailored by the experiences, skills, and dedication of those who serve. My journey in aviation has taken me from working with grass mowers on airfields to becoming an FAA aviation safety inspector. This journey includes a decade as an AP/IA mechanic, seven years as a DMIR, and over twenty years as an FAA aviation safety inspector. I have logged over 11,000 hours flying fighter jets, Lear Jets, and various light aircraft. Throughout my career, I have held significant roles such as flight commander, squadron commander, and chief pilot, and have been honored with esteemed awards like the Distinguished Flying Cross and the FAA’s Wright Brothers award for 50 years of safe flying.
Early Beginnings
My passion for aviation began at a young age, watching aircraft take off from runway 1 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). My love for aviation grew as I shared my fascination with the skies with my best friend whose father was a TWA pilot in the Bay Area. However, my eyesight prevented me from pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot. Instead, my initial foray into the industry involved cooking, a profession that honed my practical and interpersonal skills. After several years as a cook, I decided to embark on an adventure, hitchhiking to Alaska, where I worked as a camp chaperon at a camp in Juneau. During the off-season, I worked as a cook at a downtown Hilton, then joined Alaska Airlines as a ticket agent.
From Ticket Agent to Safety Inspector
Over the next few years, I immersed myself in the world of aviation. In my free time, I would travel different parts of Alaska, gaining knowledge of the region. With my work at Alaska Airlines, I quickly ascended the ranks, from a ticket agent to becoming a Supervisor. I worked in various locations, including Juneau, San Francisco, LAX, Anchorage, and even the remote Prudhoe Bay. During this period, I also ventured into aircraft maintenance by working as a mechanic for Cessna and later as a Director of Maintenance for a Cessna dealership. My passion for safety and a deep understanding of aerospace mechanics led me to become an FAA aviation safety inspector, a role I held for over two decades.
Accomplishments and Honors
My journey in aviation has not been without its highlights. I have accumulated over 11,000 flight hours in various aircraft, including fighter jets, Lear Jets, and light aircraft. I have held numerous key positions, including flight commander, squadron commander, and chief pilot. My dedication and service have been recognized with prestigious awards, such as the Distinguished Flying Cross and the FAA’s Wright Brothers award for 50 years of safe flying. These honors serve as a testament to my commitment to aviation and the safety of those who fly in the skies.
Conclusion
My experience in the aviation field is extensive, encompassing a range of roles from maintenance and ticketing to safety inspections. This journey has taught me the importance of dedication, continuous learning, and the pursuit of excellence. Though my career has taken many twists and turns, my core passion for aviation remains unchanged. Each step along the way has equipped me with invaluable skills and knowledge, shaping me into the dedicated professional I am today. If you are looking for someone with a wealth of aviation experience, I am the person you are looking for.
