Exploring Solitude: My Daily Experience in a Quite Escape
In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of solitude often gets overshadowed by the hum of city life and the constant connectivity that modern technology provides. However, solitude, for me, is not a solitary existence but a profoundly enriching experience that enhances my daily life. Let me paint a picture of my day-to-day existence and how solitude feels to me.
A Moment of Solitude
Precision time and absence of chaos characterize my everyday experience. Right now, as I look at the clock, it's 12:50 AM. I'm finishing the last load of laundry from a house guest who left just a few hours back. Already, the room feels cozy and organized, setting the tone for a peaceful morning ahead. The house, tucked away in a dense forest, is surrounded by nature, cocooning me in quietude. Nine miles from the nearest small town, this solitude has a charm all its own.
Order Amidst Silence
I made this house neat and tidy, purely because of my innate love for order. Yet, there is no disturbance, no need to disturb. This is my choice, my sanctuary. I see the beauty in every task, whether it's completing a laundry cycle, attending my online meetings, or maintaining the grounds with the roar of a zero-turn mower. The ticking of the clock and the rhythm of mowing become my meditative pauses.
Sense of Spontaneity
The exterior motion sensor lights turn on, and my eyes are drawn to a mama raccoon with her playful cubs walking by the window. These spontaneous visits from the wild, where creatures phone in unannounced, add a lively element to my day. They remind me that nature and its unpredictability offer a different kind of company. At the bakery, I may refuel; in the morning, I'll decide based on how the day unfolds.
Tasks and To-Dos
My day is a blend of tasks and to-dos, including catching up on various blogging efforts, writing for Quora and Substack, and scheduling client calls. Combined with company research for clients, the day promises to be full and fulfilling. Whether I decide to run to Costco or tackle the grocery list on Wednesday depends on the day's energy. Mowing the lawn with my faithful companion, a dog by my side, is both a workout and a distraction from the mental load of tasks.
The Best of Being Alone
I never grapple with the notion of being alone. There is always work to do, meetings to attend, and the joy of writing to sustain my engagement. Every task is a mental sprint, a brief respite from the chaos, or a serene effort to put ideas into words. I revisit X, mull over Substack topics, and keep my blog active, all the while feeling the weight of responsibility and the pleasure of creation.
The spontaneity of life is what defines my solitude. It's a journey where every moment holds a surprise, every task brings joy, and every thought is sharpened by the quiet backdrop. This is what life feels like when you’re alone, more than just the absence of company, it's the presence of self and the choice to live in the quiet lands of your own making.
As the day comes to a close, filled with unfinished lists and the promise of tomorrow, I feel a profound gratitude. This is solitude at its best, not just a state of being but a celebration of personal space, simplicity, and the contentment that comes from crafting a life on one’s own terms.
