Discovering the Depth and Splendor of Washington DC
When you think of Washington DC, what picture pops into your head? The iconic landmarks like the Capitol Building, the National Mall, and the Washington Monument immediately come to mind. The Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial are a close second in vividness. Beyond these well-known sights, the city is also home to the Tidal Basin and its beautiful Japanese cherry blossoms, as well as the symbolic White House and US Capitol. Smithsonian Museums add to the intellectual atmosphere, making it not just the seat of government but a beacon for ideas and learning.

For more than four decades, Washington DC has been a home for many individuals, like me. Despite its reputation for having a few extremely arrogant people, particularly in government, the city remains a beloved home. Its multicultural essence and array of fantastic restaurants contribute to this love. It's a city of ideas where one's resume and determination can lead to great achievements. However, it's important to note that high costs, especially for private education and some public schools, make it challenging to raise children. Housing prices are also high, but the city offers numerous free cultural events, music, theater, and museums. Despite these challenges, Washington DC continues to be a place where life feels like home.

From a personal perspective, Washington DC is a place where my family history is deeply rooted. My mother, paternal aunts, and uncles, all with a father who served in the USA and later fought for the right to remain in the country, have influenced my perception of the city. While Washington DC is a bustling metropolis, it's also rich in natural beauty. Mount St. Helens, Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state, despite the reference to what was meant, offer breathtaking landscapes. Local activities like digging for clams and exploring the Columbia River add to the outdoor enjoyment. Pike Place Market, renowned for its fresh seafood and friendly atmosphere, is a delightful destination.

There are several memorable moments encapsulated in the city's rich tapestry. Playing a high school football game on the Ellipse beside the White House, watching Peter Sellers in Being There, and reflecting on the city's coastal charm are just a few.
