Choosing the Right Phone as a VIT Student: Tips and Considerations

Choosing the Right Phone as a VIT Student: Tips and Considerations

Saying it by my and my friends' experiences, every VIT aspirant should read this.

Reasoning Behind Phone Choices

To be frank, during your VIT life, you have five key paths to choose from -

Playing games all day Photography enthusiasts Bookworms or lower middle-class students Royal kids with no limits in spending Average users

For Gamers

If you're a gamer who spends your days playing, consider a phone like the Asus Roga or high-end gaming phones with a powerful graphics card. These will ensure you have a smooth gaming experience.

Photography Enthusiasts

If you're a photography junkie or planning to become a travel or food blogger, a DSLR camera would be a better choice than a smartphone with a high-pixel camera. This way, you can take high-quality photos without carrying an additional bulky camera.

Bookworms or Lower Middle-Class Students

For those who want to study a lot and get distracted less, a basic low-end phone that supports basic functions like WhatsApp is a good choice. Options like the Mi Redmi Note 8 are affordable and sufficient.

Royal Kids

If you want to flaunt your wealth through expensive phones and branded accessories, the sky is the limit. You can choose from iPhones, OnePlus, or high-end Android phones, depending on your budget.

Average Users

On average, you'll find 30 people using iPhones. Most people keep changing their mobiles every 2-3 years. Common choices include Mi, Oppo, Honor, Vivo, and OnePlus phones, which range between 7000 to 40000 INR.

Advice for VIT Students

Being a responsible senior, I have some advice for you. If you plan to enjoy, there are many ways to do so at VIT. However, keep in mind that such enjoyment will harm not only your career but also waste lakhs of rupees of your money. Remember, your primary goal is to learn and get placed.

Additionally, at VIT, it's quite hard to make long-lasting friends due to the sheer number of students. There are literally 7000 students in every batch, which gives everyone a wide variety of choices. Roommates change every year, and classmates change every semester and even for each subject.

Myths About Enjoyments in VIT

Smoking: Apart from health issues, smoking is a costly habit. Each packet costs around 340 INR, which lasts 2-3 days. This means you need at least 4,000-5,000 INR per month for smoking alone. You won't have enough money to enjoy food, etc. Drinking: Some students drink excessively and get caught by VIT officials, leading to backlogs and difficulties in placement. Remember, you're here for placements. Relationships: Relationships can either grow or lead to wasted time, sometimes ending in irreversibly scarring life experiences. Bike Riding: Many get into accidents due to reckless bike riding. On average, 5 to 10 accidents result in fatalities per year at VIT. Drug Use: Some engage in drug use, leading to restigation from the college and even getting into police cases.

My Suggestion: Stay in the VIT hostel and don't stay outside as a day scholar. Trust me, you will thank me by the end of your VIT life.

Overall, it's important to strike a balance between enjoyment and responsibility to ensure a successful VIT experience.
