Can Your Pet Be Your Best Friend? The Unique Bond with Cats

Companionship during quarantine often takes an unusual turn when you live with four-paws rather than human friends. My cats, Blaize and Althea, are my best friends. Since our quarantine began, we've shared every moment together, establishing a bond that is both loving and unbreakable.

Living with a 24/7 Buddy

During quarantine, the time spent with my cats has been invaluable. They follow me constantly, much like they're our own human shadow. Our routine involves dining at the same time, and watching TV together, with Althea becoming interested in the screen until something catches her fancy. Their loyalty and unique behaviors never fail to bring a smile to my face.

A Sneak Peek into the Mind of Your Cat

My female cat, Althea, responds the moment I mew like a kitten. She comes running with a purring sound and leaping into my lap, even licking my arm or resting her paw on my hand as if to reassure me that she's by my side. My male cat, Blaize, goes a step further and demands cuddles, pressing himself against my face and holding me in a fierce embrace for five minutes. After the hug, he often falls asleep on my arm. At night, Blaize sleeps on my head, and Althea on my knees.

Unconditional Affection

These feline companions are not just my best friends but a constant source of support, affection, and laughter. They never get bored of each other's company, always there to listen and provide the comfort that we both need.

The Evolution of Best Friends

While my cats are my truest companions, there are people in my life who are considered best friends as well. However, I can recall times in my youth when these cats were my only friends, true confidants, and unconditionally loyal companions. Cats are excellent listeners and never betray secrets, making them invaluable friends in both troubled times and joyful moments.

Introducing My Furry Sisters: Blaize and Althea

Blaize, the one grooming her sister, and Althea, with their unique traits and behaviors, are more than just pets; they are my sanity, hope, and a ray of sunshine on my darkest days. Blaize, the one on the left, stays by my side when I’m sick or engaged in a relaxing activity. When she believes it’s my bedtime, she waits by the stairs to my room. Althea, the one looking at the camera, inspects my food and confirms it’s good enough, especially when it comes to treats like cheese. When I head to bed, she rushes to get to the bed first, while Althea does a thorough perimeter walk, perhaps checking for any potential threats or monsters. At night, she parks herself within a 12-inch radius of me and rarely leaves my side.

When I'm unhappy, Althea headbutts me wherever she can reach me, and during cuddle sessions, she reciprocates by grooming me back. Our relationship goes beyond friendship; it's a deep bond built on mutual affection and trust.
