Camping Adventures: My Favorite Activities and Experiences
Camping is an incredible way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. Whether you're a seasoned camper or just starting out, there are numerous activities to choose from. My personal favorites range from enjoying the natural beauty of the landscape to indulging in unique practices like sungazing and meditation. Let's explore my top picks for things to do while camping.
Sex on the Beach
While it’s not for the faint of heart, my absolute favorite thing to do during a camping trip is a unique and romantic experience involving paddling along a pristine and isolated beach on the north shore of Lake Superior. Here, we set our small kayak in the calm waters under the warm sun, strip down and jump into the icy cold waters. We then come ashore where we lie on the warm cobblestone beach and snuggle together, each invigorating the other and reveling in the quiet beauty of our surroundings.
Common Camping Activities
Many people have their own favorite activities for camping, but some of the most popular include hiking, swimming in the lake, and roasting marshmallows over the campfire. These are fantastic ways to enjoy the great outdoors and spend quality time with friends and family. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced camper, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So, pack up your gear and get ready to have an unforgettable summer adventure in nature!
Variety of Camping Activities
Depending on the time of day, my personal preferences for camping activities vary. Here are some of my favorites:
First Thing in the Morning
Sungazing: In the early morning, I often take the time to sungaze for about 20-25 minutes. This practice involves looking directly at the sun to regulate the body's circadian rhythm and promote relaxation. After the sungazing session, I take pictures of the area where the sun is still low, capturing the early morning light.
Other Morning Activities
Cooking and Lounging: After the sungazing and photography, I enjoy cooking breakfast over the campfire and lounging by it. I often watch what I call "ranger TV" in the evening, but during the day, I prefer to relax and watch the world unfold around me as the sun sets.
Campfire and Bushcraft
Campfire Cooking and Knife Play: One of my favorite camping partners is an excellent camp cook, capable of teaching most professional chefs a few tricks. I love trying out her latest creations. The campfire also provides an ideal setting for honing my bushcraft skills by playing around with knives.
Morning Sleep
Napping: For those who have been out in the woods for some time, napping is not just a casual activity but a necessity. The body can be full of negative ions and a nap helps reset this balance and resets my circadian rhythm. This process usually takes about three days for a surface level reset and around 11 days for a full system reset, akin to a defragmentation of the bodily functions.
Unusual Camping Activities
Bullwhip Practice: One of the more unique activities I enjoy is practicing my bullwhip cracking routines. While I don’t usually practice double whip routines, it’s delightful to explore and perfect my skills with a lighter and more compact whip.
Meditation in a Copper Pyramid: Lastly, I find meditation in a copper pyramid to be an extraordinary experience. A few years ago, I developed a pocket pyramid design that can fit in a cargo pants pocket, allowing me to meditate in a copper pyramid. While the pyramid construction was inspired by ancient wisdom, the experience of meditating inside it can be quite transformative and non-discernable to those who have never tried it.
Camping offers boundless opportunities for adventure and personal growth. From the simple pleasures of a campfire to the more unconventional activities, each experience contributes to a richer and more fulfilling trip. So, the next time you plan a camping adventure, consider these activities, and see which ones resonate with you.
