Becoming a Cabin Crew in Today’s Pandemic: A Comprehensive Guide
Yes, you can apply for a cabin crew position even if you are married. Airlines primarily care about whether you are a good fit for the job, not whether you are married or not. Just consider the job's schedule and responsibilities along with your family situation. If you are eligible and interested, go ahead and apply.
My Background and Experience as a Cabin Crew
Before I delve into the dos and donts, allow me to share a little bit about my background. I have flown for 3 international airlines as a Cabin Crew and have cleared 5 airline interviews in total. My journey is a testament to the fact that with the right mindset and preparation, you can achieve your goals regardless of your current situation.
How to Become a Cabin Crew: The Dos and Don'ts
Physical Criteria and Eligibility
If you fit the physical criteria of the airline, you are eligible. Typically, this includes a minimum height of 155 cm for girls and 170 cm for boys (airlines may have specific height requirements, check the airline's official website for details). There should be no visible tattoos or piercings, and you must have normal vision. Additionally, you need to have passed your 12th Standard exams.
Age Requirements
While in India, you can get through an airline interview if you are 18 years and older, but you need to be at least 21 years old to be hired by an airline based abroad.
Steps to Follow
Step 1: Clear your 12th standard. This is a crucial step, and you should prioritize it.
Communication Skills
If you can talk well and express yourself with ease in a polite manner, you can certainly become a cabin crew. You do not need a diploma to become a cabin crew, and you should not waste your parents' hard-earned money on unnecessary diplomas. Airlines do not require service training, safety training, first aid training, dangerous goods or aviation security training, fire-fighting, makeup, hair styling, or housekeeping knowledge until you are hired.
What Airlines Care About
Airlines care about your attitude towards learning, your enthusiasm for the job, and your cheerful disposition and personality. If you are the kind who whines, complains, and sulks or feels miserable when asked to do something, this is not the job for you. If you are polite, pleasant, and have a flair for doing things for others, cabin crew is the right choice for you. Remember, airlines train you and provide the necessary skills and knowledge, so you do not need to know anything before that.
Additional Training and Support
Private institutes are not authorized by the DGCA in India to give flight safety training to cabin crew. Only airlines are authorized. Service training is also preferable by airlines only. On the other hand, a personality development workshop or program is advisable if you have issues related to public speaking, communication, and being interviewed. There are no questions asked about those gimmicks related to diploma institutes during the interview process.
Conclusion
With the right mindset and preparation, you can take steps towards becoming a cabin crew regardless of your age, marital status, or current situation. Focus on meeting the physical criteria, clearing your 12th standard exams, and working on your communication skills. Remember, airlines care about your fit for the job and your attitude, not your diploma or past experiences.
